How Are Planets Named?

The planets in our solar system are named after Roman gods and goddesses. For example, Mercury is named after the Roman god of trade and travel, and Venus is named after the Roman goddess of beauty and love. The other planets are named after the Roman gods of war (Mars),agriculture (Jupiter),and the sea (Neptune). Pluto, which was once considered a planet but is now classified as a dwarf planet, is named after the Roman god of the underworld.

The Planets In The Solar System
